It has been a whirlwind of activity at our parish in these past weeks.
Our celebration of the Feast of Christ the King included a well-attended pitch-in dinner in Tuohy Hall. Special thanks to Stacey Hoaglin, Ellen Schmidt, Phyllis McNamara and Jenny Annee of our Pastoral Council for chairing this very special event. Thank you also to Sister Mary Luke Jones, Monsignor Tony Volz and Fr. Steve Jarrell for joining us for our patronal feast.
The 2019 National Catholic Youth Conference is now history and by all accounts was a beautiful celebration of our young Church. Almost forty Christ the King high school youth joined more than twenty thousand young Catholics from around the country for this incredible celebration of faith. Thank you to our Youth Minister, Ann Collins, for taking care of all of the details that went into preparing for this event and thank you to chaperones for making it possible for our youth to attend.
The Thanksgiving Day Drumstick Dash went off without a hitch and brought the community together to raise funds for Wheeler Mission. Christ the King was privileged to serve as an official Water Station for the runners, walkers and crawlers. We thank Cheryl Beckerich for organizing the volunteers and making sure that water was in good supply. The Tiger Running Club has the distiction of once again have the largest club in the run. Thanks go out to Shannen Priser & Sarah Bustamante for organizing our group.
The Giving Tree is in the main vestibule. It is a thing of beauty with all of the tags hanging from its branches and it will be a thing of even greater beauty when all the tags are gone! If you haven’t taken a tag yet, please do so and return the gift to the parish in this coming week.
Congratulations to the children of our parish school and religious education program who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the very first time this past Monday. Thank you to our Director of Faith Formation, Cindy Flaten, and catechists, Margaret Gisler, Christy Fillenwarth and Hannah Schubert for preparing the children so well for the sacrament and thank you to Fr. Bonke and Fr. David Bu’Nyar for helping the children encounter our merciful God in this sacrament of our Church.
The new Pictorial Directories have arrived. No doubt about it, Christ the King has some very good looking people! Each directory captures a particular period in the history of our parish. Thank you to Cheryl Beckerich for putting the directory together so beautifully, thank you to the volunteers who served as hosts during the weeks in which the pictures were taken and thank you to all who had their pictures included in the directory. If you got your picture taken, you can pick up your copy after Mass or in the parish office.
See you at Mass!
