I made a great act of faith this past week. I actually bought a 2021 Appointment Calendar! I had read a survey on Facebook earlier this year in which people shared their most useless purchase of 2020. Number one in that survey was an Appointment Calendar!
Congratulations to our 8th Grade graduates who gathered Wednesday evening for Mass and Graduation Exercises! The celebration was delayed by the pandemic, but perhaps the delay made it all the more special as our eight graders and their families were reunited after several months apart. Special thanks to the seventh grade parents for organizing the evening and making it so special for our eighth graders. We can and we will expect great things from the CKS Class of 2020!
We continue to await news of international flights resuming to India so that Deacon Michael can return home for his ordination to the priesthood. While he is a great gift to us at Christ the King and we would like to keep him, we know that his ordination is an event that he, his family and his Diocese of Palayamkottai have long been anticipating. Originally, Deacon Michael was scheduled to be ordained on July 27, but that date has, of course, been postponed. We believe that flights to India will resume sometime in August and that we will be able to send Deacon Michael home for his ordination in the coming weeks.
As a parish, we would like to send him with a gift for his diocese as a sign of our appreciation for his service to us at Christ the King and as a sign of our affection. If you would like to contribute toward that gift, please send your contribution to Christ the King or place it in the offering basket at Mass with the notation ‘Ordination Gift’. Parishioners who would like to send Deacon Michael an Ordination Card, may also address it to him at the parish.
Also, please note that on the weekend of August 15-16, we will take up a special collection for the missionary groups that were assigned to Christ the King this summer, but are unable to come because of the pandemic. Each year two missionary groups are assigned to each parish in the Archdiocese to allow us to participate in the missionary work of the universal Church. The special collection on the weekend of August 15-16 will be divided between the School Sisters of Saint Francis and the Diocese of Eluru, India. Thank you for your generosity!
See you at Mass!
