This weekend we welcome Fr. Tom Widner, S.J., to Christ the King. Fr. Tom serves as the Spiritual Director of Bishop Simon Brute College Seminary in Indianapolis. Fr. Tom and the priests assigned to Bishop Brute periodically visit the parishes of the Archdiocese to share news about the seminary and the formation that it offers to college-age men who are discerning a call to the priesthood. The seminary was established by Archbishop Emeritus Daniel Buechlein, OSB, in 2004. After outgrowing its original home at Marian University, the seminary was relocated to the former Carmelite Monastery on Cold Spring Road in 2009. Fr. Tom’s visit is a reminder to us to pray for vocations and an opportunity to support Bishop Brute Seminary. Welcome, Fr. Tom!
Thank you to everyone who participated in last Sunday’s Holy Hour for Vocations. The Holy Hour for Vocations began when Monsignor Tony Volz served as our pastor and continued during the tenure of Fr. Steve. With twenty-five of our current Archdiocesan priests reaching the retirement age of seventy in the next five years, we need to continue to pray for vocations and intensify our prayers for vocations to the priesthood. Our next Holy Hour for Vocations will take place on Sunday, November 5, from 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Please plan on joining us in asking the Master of the Harvest to send workers into his fields.
Speaking of vocations, we will welcome two seminarians to Christ the King in the coming days and weeks! Eric Gelhausen is a fourth year student at Marian University and seminarian at Bishop Simon Brute Seminary. Eric is from the Diocese of Evansville, Indiana, and has been assigned to Christ the King for pastoral ministry. He will join Cindy Flaten and our dedicated catechists for our Thursday evening Religious Education Program for parish sons and daughters attending our area public schools. Eric will also be assisting at weekend Masses. Welcome, Eric!
At Thanksgiving we will have the joy of welcoming Michael Prakasam to Christ the King. Michael is second year theologian at Saint Meinrad Seminary. He is from the Diocese of Palayamkottai in southern India. For several years the Archdiocese has enjoyed a special bond with the Diocese of Palayamkottai in which seminarians from that diocese study at St. Meinrad and then return to the Archdiocese of Indianapolis after ordination to offer service to our Archdiocese. Fr. Xavier Raj currently serves as Associate Pastor of Saint Luke Parish and Fr. Peter Jegan served as Associate Pastor at both St. Luke and St. Malachi in Brownsburg before becoming Pastor of St. Martin in Martinsville this past July. The Diocese of Palayamkottai has given us good and holy priests!
Christ the King will become Michael’s home parish while he studies in the United States. He will be with us at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and during the summer months. We are delighted to welcome Michael to our parish and grateful that he will call Christ the King his home. God bless you, Michael!
See you at Mass!
