Last Saturday’s ‘Black and Gold’ Mardi Gras celebration was a great success! We thank Jennifer Priser for chairing this year’s event and for the many people who helped transform CKS into a disco haven in order to raise funds for our parish and school. We are grateful to the sponsors and all who attended. We also thank those who, in record time, prepared the school and Tuohy Hall for classes on Monday. It was beautiful to see how smoothly and joyfully Jennifer and her crew put on one of our parish’s main fundraisers. Thank you to all and see you at Mardi Gras 2020!
Congratulations to our parish scouts who celebrated their annual Blue and Gold Scout Banquet this past Sunday. The banquet was an opportunity to not only recognize the accomplishments of the scouts of Pack 175, but to thank all who volunteer to make scouting possible at Christ the King. In the scout promise and oat, we find many of the values that we treasure as a community of faith. May God bless all of our parish scouts and their leaders!
This weekend we enter the season of Lent. Many people received ashes on their foreheads this past Wednesday as a sign of their desire to turn away from sin and be renewed in the faith of their baptism. During the six weeks of this season of grace the Church invites us to rediscover the disciplines of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. May each of us find a way to incorporate these holy disciplines in our Christian life as we strive to grow as disciples of the One who laid down his life for us all.
Please hold the men and women of our RCIA in prayer in a special way during Lent. This Sunday afternoon they will be presented to Archbishop Thompson and their names will be entered into the Book of the Elect. The Church, upon the recommendation of their sponsors and catechists, chooses or ‘elects’ them for the Easter Sacraments. Lent will be their final period of preparation to be joined to us in the faith of our Church at this year’s Easter Vigil. May they find warm welcome!
Each Friday of Lent we will have the opportunity to join together for the Stations of the Cross. Please plan on being present for this short, but powerful, Lenten devotion of our Church.
See you at Mass!
