We wish a happy Fall Break to all teachers and students. At a meeting of the North Deanery priests on Wednesday all of the pastors spoke of our admiration and gratitude for the work of our school administrators, teachers and staff. In the midst of ever-changing guidelines and protocols, they have worked tirelessly to keep our parish schools open in order to give our children the most normal school year possible. While I know they have the gratitude of our students and parents, may they also know the gratitude of our parish community. When you see Mr. Seib, Mrs. Wenclewicz or any of our teachers, please thank them for the inspiring example of self giving love they offer our school and parish.
Congratulations to Deacon Michael Prakasam! Sunday, October 18, he will be ordained to the priesthood at Saint Michael's Shrine in his hometown of Venkatachalapuram, Tamil Nadu, India. Monday, October 19, he will celebrate a Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving. We share in the joy of Michael's parents, his parish community and the Diocese of Palayamkottai. We also ask God's blessing upon Michael's mother and father for their support and encouragement of their son's vocation through the long years of Michael's formation, including his four years with us here in the United States. May Michael's offering of his life to the Church be an inspiration to other young men to be open to a call from God to a life service as a priest. Congratulations, Fr.
Our North Deanery Youth Ministers are finding new and innovative ways to strengthen youth ministry in our parishes. They have recently formed a Deanery Youth Council and are responding to the desire of our youth to come together on a deanery level for bible studies and prayer opportunities as well as social events. May God bless these efforts to help our youth live and celebrate their Catholic faith and may God bless our deanery youth ministers.
This Thursday, October 22, a group of young adults will once again gather at Christ the King for an outdoor Holy Hour. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the lawn outside the Blessed Sacrament Chapel from 7:00 pm. - 8:00 p.m. Parishioners are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket and spend an hour in quiet reflection, praise and worship music and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Should the weather be inclement, the Holy Hour will take place in church. We are grateful to the young adults who come from throughout Indianapolis for this opportunity for prayer.
There is a noticeable increase in the number of people returning to Sunday Mass each week. It is a wonderful sight to see both familiar and new faces. In spite of the pandemic, we have had the joy of welcoming many new parishioners to Christ the King. We will continue to celebrate the 8:00 a.m. Sunday Mass outside as long as weather permits. Beginning the weekend of October 31- November 1, we will resume choral music at all of the Masses except the 8:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. Please take a 'Today's Missal' from the vestibule. The missal contains the Sunday scripture readings and many of the songs we will be using at Mass. Please take the missal home with you after Mass each weekend. In keeping with the current corona virus protocols, any missals left in church must be discarded.
See you at Mass!
