This weekend is Father’s Day and we wish all of our parish fathers and grandfathers a very special day! They are often our unsung heroes and today we thank God for the gift they are to us. This weekend we also bless and dedicate the St. Joseph statue that will be placed in the Adoration Chapel. As foster father to Jesus and spouse of the Blessed Mother, Saint Joseph played an important role in salvation history. It is a role that is often times overlooked. Today we honor Saint Joseph and dedicate his statue to the living and deceased fathers and grandfathers of Christ the King Parish. Saint Joseph, pray for us!
This weekend we also take up the annual collection for the education of future priests. The Church in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis rejoiced on Saturday, June 1; with the ordination of Fr. Vincent Gilmore and Fr. Timothy DeCrane.
Our parish of Christ the King rejoiced with the arrival of Benjamin Popson on Tuesday, June 4. Ben is a seminarian at Bishop Simon Brute College Seminary and a fourth year student at Marian University. He has been assigned to Christ the king for pastoral ministry during the summer months and we are delighted that he is with us.
Our very own Deacon Michael Prakasam returned from his visit to his family in India on Wednesday, June 12, and is ministering this summer at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in New Albany, Indiana, which just happens to be Ben’s home parish! Deacon Michael will be ordained to the priesthood in May of 2020.
Fr. Vinnie, Fr. Tim, Deacon Michael and Ben give us reason for hope at a time when the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and the Church in America, as a whole, experiences a decline in the number of men entering the seminary.
Jesus told us the harvest is great; but the laborers are few. Let us never tire of praying for the gift of vocations for our Church and let us thank God for the vocations of our newly-ordained priests and our seminarians at Bishop Brute College Seminary and Saint Meinrad School of Theology.
See you at Mass!
