Happy Mother’s Day to all of our parish moms, step-moms, foster moms, mothers-to-be and grandmothers! Thank you for the incredibly important role you play in our lives and for the ex-ample of self-sacrificing love you show us each and every day. We always see an up-tick in attendance at Sunday Mass on Mother’s Day. Sons and daughters know what makes their moms happy! Thank you for passing on the treasure of faith in word and deed! We also remember with love and gratitude the deceased mothers and grandmothers of Christ the King Parish this Mother’s Day. May they rest in peace.
During this month in which we honor our earthly mothers, the Church also invites us to turn our attention to our Heavenly Mother. The Eighth Graders of CKS led us in a special Mass and a beautiful May Crowning on May 2. At that Mass we reflected on Mary’s last words to us which are recorded in Saint John’s Gospel. At the Wedding Feast of Cana, Mary told the waiters – and us, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Just as we know what makes our earthly mothers happy, we also know what makes our Heavenly Mother happy. Jesus calls us to live in peace with one another. This is Mary’s hope and her prayer for her children. On the Third Sunday of each month we hold our monthly Adoration from 2:00 pm – 7:00 am As part of that devotion we pray the Rosary for Peace.
As a special way of honoring Mary during the month of May, I would like to invite all of our parish families to gather together on Sunday, May 20, at 8:00 pm to pray together the Rosary for Peace. While we pray the Rosary for Peace every third Sunday of the month, gathering on the Third Sunday of May in great number will be a special way for us to honor Mary during the month especially dedicated to her. Each family is invited to bring flowers to be placed at Our Lady’s Shrine. The rosary will be followed by an Ice Cream Social on the parish lawn. Please mark your calendar and bring the kids and grandkids!
Next weekend the Easter Season will conclude with the great Feast of Pentecost. And so we pray, “Come, Holy Spirit, come, and renew the face of the earth!”
See you at Mass!
