With students back in school, the pace of parish life picks up once again! We ask God’s blessings upon all students, teachers and administrators as the new academic year begins. May the 2019-20 school year be one of growth in mind, body and spirit for all of our students!
As students return to the classroom, there are several opportunities for adult parishioners to grow in faith. The times in which we live call for a better understanding of the Church and the basic beliefs of the Church. A recent PEW Survey reported that a majority of Catholics do not understand the Church’s teaching on the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. If the Eucharist is the ‘source and summit’ of our lives as Catholic Christians, an understanding of the true nature of the Eucharist is fundamental for all Catholics. If the PEW Survey is accurate, many of us are in need of some ‘remedial’ catechesis. Here are some timely upcoming opportunities:
Two Adult Bible Studies will begin in September that deal with the biblical foundations of Catholicism. Why do we believe what we believe? Please check the bulletin for information and plan to participate in one of the seven-week studies that will help us rediscover some of the great treasures of our Catholic faith!
The upcoming Fall Cursillo Weekends for men and women offer a wonderful opportunity to re-connect with our faith and to be re-energized in that faith. Cursillo stands for ‘A Short Course in Christianity.’ Over the course of a three day retreat, the basics of the Christian life are examined and a plan for living the faith more intentionally and more fully is presented. The Men’s Weekend is scheduled for October 3-6 and the women’s Weekend is scheduled for October 17-20. It would be great to have a group from Christ the King participate in the weekends and bring the energy of Cursillo back to the parish!
The annual Indiana Catholic Men’s Conference is scheduled for October 5 at the Indiana Convention Center. Each year this conference brings in nationally-recognized speakers to Indianapolis to teach and inspire. What a great opportunity for the grandfathers, sons and grandsons to spend a day together with Catholic men from throughout the state!
Finally, a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend is scheduled for November 1-3 at Fatima Retreat House. Marriage is a wonderful gift that needs to be celebrated and nurtured. Parish couples are encouraged to give the gift of a Marriage Encounter Weekend to themselves, to their families and to the parish family. Information about the weekend is available in the bulletin or by contacting Fatima Retreat House.
At a time when many of the Church’s teachings are questioned and even ridiculed, we remember the words of Saint Pater, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 2:15)
See you at Mass!
