This weekend is a very special one for our parish community. We hold our second Annual Mass and Picnic in the Park. Its an opportunity for us to celebrate the bonds we share as parishioners of Christ the King. Throughout the year we work together in the various ministries of our parish. I think it is safe to say that we work hard. How good it is for us to come together simply to be together! One of the suggestions that was offered to the Pastoral Council through the "For the Good of the Parish Box" was that we find more opportunities for parishioners to come together for social events so that we can better know one another. The Annual Mass and Picnic in the Park is one such opportunity.
Another opportunity will present itself on the Feast of Christ the King on Saturday, November 24. This feast marks the end of the Liturgical Year and is the patronal feast of our parish which proudly bears the name of Christ the King. On that Saturday we will hold a parish-wide pitch-in dinner following the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Mark your calendar now for this important event in the life of our parish. It is good for us to be together!
Next Saturday Christ the King will host "The Shroud Encounter." As we heard in last weekend's Ministry Minute, this is a rare opportunity for the parishes of the North Deanery. The Shroud of Turin, which has been studied and which has mystified scientists for decades, is believed by many to be the burial cloth that covered Jesus. The presentation will take place in Tuohy Hall immediately following the Saturday 5:00 p.m. Mass and will include a light meal.
A group of twenty-two young men and women from Christ the King just completed the training for serving as Altar Servers at Mass. We are grateful to them and to our veteran Altar Servers for their faithful service to the parish. ''Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail, can keep our Altar Servers from their appointed rounds." Thank you, Altar Servers!
Thank you also to all who are helping us build our "50th Anniversary Fund." The fund will help us renovate and embellish our parish church in 2020.
See you at Mass!
