Dear friends,
As the weeks of summer pass by, we set our sights on the beginning of a new school year which is quickly approaching and the resumption of many parish programs that take a hiatus during summer.
More than a hundred children participated in this year’s Vacation Bible School. We thank Stacey Hoaglin and the small army of volunteers who made this wonderful opportunity available to so many of our parish children. The children shared their joy and enthusiasm with the parish community at last Sunday’s 10:00 a.m. Mass.
Wednesday of the week of Vacation Bible School, our middle school and senior high students joined youth from throughout the deanery for a trip to King’s Island. Whenever our youth travel for an event, my first question to Youth Minister, Ann Collins, is always, “How many boarded the bus and how many returned?” By all measures the youth had a great time!
That same day our King’s Court enjoyed an afternoon together at Indianapolis’ Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre. The group savored a delicious meal and then tapped toes to the familiar songs from “The Buddy Holly Story.” It was a great time for the King’s Court and we are grateful to Phyllis McNamara for taking care of all of the arrangements for this outing. Plans are underway for a Fall Trip to Saint Meinrad Seminary on Wednesday, October 16. The next regular meeting of the King’s Court for Mass and lunch at Christ the King is Monday, August 19.
Please mark your calendars for our upcoming Second Annual Mass in the Park on Sunday, September 22. We will gather in Broad Ripple Park at 11:00 am for Mass followed by lunch and games. The ‘coveted’ Tug-a-War Trophy will be awarded to the victorious team representing either the 5:00 p.m. Saturday or the Sunday 8:00 am, the 10:00 am or the 11:00 am Mass crowd. Time to begin training!
Please note that the Parish Office hours have been changed. The office now remains open during lunchtime to better serve parishioners for whom the lunch hour is a convenient time to conduct parish business.
Finally, as summer winds down, extended hours for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered on Sunday, August 4. The sacrament will be available from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. As we prepare to resume school and normal activities, all are invited to unpack the suitcases we carry through life in order to be able to travel a little lighter, a little freer and a whole lot more joyfully.
See you at Mass!
Father Todd
