Dear friends,
Each week I grow in appreciation of the strengths of Christ the King Parish. I would certainly place generosity near the top of that list. For the past few weeks we have had several special collections to help meet various needs in the Church, the world and in our own parish community. Your generosity has been outstanding!
Earlier this year as I met with the parish staff to look at the parish calendar, we saw that there were several special collections in August, September and October. I have to admit that I was concerned that there were so many. At that time we could not have known about the hurricanes, floods and earthquakes that would strike the country and the needs that would arise from these natural disasters. The staff assured me that the people of CTK are generous and that they respond to the special collections with good heart. I have now experienced for myself this good heart! Thank you for your generosity and your concern for others. The ministry of charity is one of the three-fold purposes of a Catholic parish and this ministry is strong at Christ the King!
In the coming weeks we will be called upon to respond to two other special opportunities that will require the good heart and the generosity of our parish.
The weekend of November 4-5 we will officially kick-off our Haiti project. Partnering with St. Matthew Parish we will strive to make a difference in the lives of school children in Boise de Lance, Haiti. The project, called ‘Bridge to Boise de Lance’ will help provide lunches to 350 school children. This will be an on-going project throughout the year, but each parish household will be invited to consider a pledge to provide one or more meals for a child in Boise de Lance. We remember the words of Jesus, “When I was hungry, you gave me to eat.”
The following weekend is Intention Sunday for the United Catholic Appeal. This annual appeal provides the Archdiocese with the funds necessary to meet the shared needs of the Church in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. These needs include the formation of future priests, care for retired priests, Catholic Charities and the funding of the Archdiocesan Offices that provide daily support to our Catholic schools, Religious Education and Youth Ministry Programs. The United Catholic Appeal gives Archbishop Thompson the necessary resources to fulfill his ministry as the Chief Shepherd of the Archdiocese. Whether our gift is $5.00 or $5,000.00, every gift counts. Intention cards have been mailed to each parish household and additional ones will be available at the Masses on the weekend of November 4-5. Each parish household will be invited to bring both the weekly offering and the Intention Card to the altar on that weekend as a sign of sharing our gifts.
See you at Mass!
