October is a month in which the Church directs our attention to Mary in a very special way. Monday, October 7, is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and Sunday, October 13, is the Feast of our Lady of Fatima.
Saturday, October 12, our parish will join Catholics throughout the nation in the Public Square Rosary Crusade. At a time in which the forces of secularism are making steady advances, we are invited to publically pray the rosary, asking the Blessed Mother to intercede for our nation and for our families. We will gather on the front lawn of the church, near the Adoration Chapel, at noon to pray the rosary together. Whether you pray the rosary every day, or are still learning how to pray this prayer, all are welcome!
Following the recitation of the rosary we will gather in Mary’s Garden, near the main entrance of the church, to bless and dedicate a new, life-size statue of the Blessed Mother. The statue was purchased through grant money awarded to Christ the King through an endowment established by the late Fr. Elmer Burwinkel to support projects in the Archdiocese that foster devotion to the Blessed Mother. Business Manager, Jennifer Priser, wrote an application for a large statue of Mary for Our Lady’s Garden. The parish was awarded $1,000.00 for the purchase of the statue. Let us keep Fr. Burwinkel in prayer for his kindness to our parish through the endowment he has established.
October is also Respect Life Month. Archbishop Thompson will celebrate Mass this Sunday, October 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. The 29th annual Central Indiana Life Chain will form on North Meridian Street near the Cathedral this Sunday, October 6, from 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Catholics and people of good will from all faiths will stand together for one hour of silent pray for an end to abortion and renewed respect for all life in our nation.
Parishioners of Christ the King are also invited to participate in the 40 Days for Life Project in which communities throughout the nation keep a peaceful vigil of prayer outside facilities that provide abortions, praying for a change of heart and mind of those who provide abortions and for those who feel they have no other option. Our parish is assigned the Tuesdays of October from 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. The vigil is kept outside the Planned Parenthood facility at 8590 Georgetown Road. A sign-up sheet is available on the bulletin board in the main vestibule of the church.
A final way of marking Respect Life Month is by daily praying the beautiful “Prayer to Mary, Mother of the Life Within”. Copies of the prayer were placed in last weekend’s bulletin and additional copies are in the main vestibule of the church. We will pray the prayer at all of the Masses celebrated in October.
Finally, a new processional crucifix has been purchased for the parish in loving memory of Paul Sterger. The crucifix will stand by the side of the altar in all of our celebrations of the Mass.
See you at Mass!
