The Archdiocese of Indianapolis rejoices at the ordination of Fr. Jeff Dufresne. Fr. Jeff was ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, June 2, by Archbishop Charles Thompson and celebrated his First Mass at Saint Monica Catholic Church in Indianapolis on Sunday, June 3. Fr. Jeff has been assigned as the Associate Pastor of Saint Monica effective July 4. Congratulations, Fr. Jeff!
Next weekend all of the parishes of the Archdiocese will take up a special collection to help defray the costs of seminary education for the twenty-five men of the Archdiocese currently discerning a vocation to the priesthood at Bishop Simon Brute Seminary in Indianapolis and at St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in southern Indiana. Thank you for your generosity as we invest in the future of our Church.
We are blessed to have one of the seminarians of the Archdiocese with us at Christ the King. Michael Prakasam has begun a twelve week Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) course at Saint Vincent Hospital. CPE introduces seminarians to hospital ministry and spiritual care for the sick.
Michael is a joyful and generous presence at the parish. He has completed his second year of theology at Saint Meinrad and will be ordained a transitional deacon in April of 2019. He was installed as an acolyte earlier this year which is one of the steps toward the priesthood. As an acolyte Michael leads the petitions at the Penitential Rite of the Mass, offers the Prayers of Intercession and purifies the sacred vessels at the conclusion of the Communion Rite. At the Masses at which Michael is present this summer, he will fulfill his role as an acolyte. We are delighted that Christ the King is Michael’s home parish!
Sunday, July 1, our parish will host a Holy Hour for Vocations from 7-8 pm. Please plan on spending an hour in prayer as we thank God for the ordination of Fr. Jeff and as we ask the Lord of the Harvest to continue to send workers into his fields. At the July Holy Hour for Vocations Michael Prakasam will share his vocation story with us. Jesus has assured us, “Ask and you will receive.” May we never tire of praying for the gift of vocations for the Church!
See you at Mass!
